Description
The MEK Motor Control Panel, also known as an MCC panel or motor control center, is a floor-standing or wall-mounted switchboard that controls several electric motors from one place. Each motor gets its own starter, protection and isolation, so faults trip only the affected motor and operators can start, stop and monitor equipment centrally. MEK builds MCC panels for factories, water and pumping stations, HVAC plant and processing industries, and they are available from MEK Uganda with delivery across East and Central Africa.
Key Features
- Centralised starting, stopping and monitoring of multiple motors
- Every starting method: direct-on-line (DOL), star-delta, soft starters and variable frequency drives (VFD/ASD)
- Local push-button control at the panel and remote control from a control room or PLC
- Protection, metering and indication specified to suit each motor feeder
- Precision CNC-manufactured enclosure for accurate cutouts, cable entries and a consistent fit
- Galvanised steel base material with a powder-coated finish for long-term corrosion resistance
- IP65-rated enclosure up to 2.0 mm thick, with a lockable door
- Completely customisable to the customer’s motor list, ratings and control logic
Which starting method?
| Method | How it starts the motor | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Direct-on-line (DOL) | Full voltage at once; simple but high start-up current | Smaller motors |
| Star-delta | Starts at reduced voltage, then switches to full | Larger motors, especially on generator supply |
| Soft starter | Ramps voltage up smoothly | Reducing mechanical shock on pumps, conveyors and fans |
| VFD / ASD | Controls start-up and running speed | Pumps and fans where variable speed saves energy |
MCC panel or individual starters?
With individual starters, each motor has its own small starter box near the machine. That is fine for one or two motors. An MCC panel brings all the starters, protection and controls into one lockable enclosure. It is easier to operate, monitor and maintain, faults stay isolated to one motor feeder, and it is ready for PLC or remote control. For any plant with several motors, an MCC is the standard choice.
MCC or PCC?
A PCC (power control center) distributes power to large feeders, such as sub-distribution boards and big loads. An MCC (motor control center) controls and protects individual motors. Large plants often have both: the PCC feeds the MCC. MEK builds MCC panels along with low voltage panels, ATS panels and control panels.

Applications
- Factories with heavy machinery and conveyor systems
- Water treatment works, boreholes and pumping stations
- HVAC plant in hotels, hospitals, malls and office buildings
- Mining, agro-processing and oil and gas facilities
Benefits
- Faults stay isolated to one motor, so the rest of the plant keeps running
- Fewer electrical faults and safer operation for maintenance staff
- Star-delta, soft-starter and VFD starting reduce start-up current, easing the load on the supply and on generators
- Ready for automation and remote monitoring
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an MCC panel?
An MCC (motor control center) panel is a switchboard that houses the starters, protection and controls for several electric motors in one enclosure, so they can be operated and protected from a single location.
Which starting method should I choose?
A direct-on-line starter connects the motor straight to full voltage. It is simple but draws a high start-up current, so it suits smaller motors. Star-delta starting cuts that current for larger motors, which helps on generator supply. Soft starters ramp the motor up smoothly to reduce mechanical shock. A VFD also controls running speed, saving energy on pumps and fans. MEK builds MCC panels with any of these.
Can MEK build an MCC panel to my motor list?
Yes. Every MCC panel is completely customisable. Share your motor schedule (number of motors, kW ratings and starting method) with MEK Uganda for a quotation.
Do you deliver MCC panels outside Uganda?
Yes. MEK Uganda delivers across Uganda and to all East and Central African countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the DR Congo.
What is the difference between an MCC and a PCC?
A PCC distributes power to large feeders. An MCC controls and protects individual motors. The PCC often feeds the MCC.
