Description
A lighting distribution board, or lighting DB, is a panel dedicated to lighting circuits. It takes a supply from a sub-main or main board and splits it into protected circuits, so each lighting zone can be switched, protected and maintained on its own. MEK builds lighting DBs to each project’s layout, and MEK Uganda supplies them across Uganda and to all East and Central African countries.
Why give lighting its own board?
Keeping lighting on its own board means a fault on a socket or machine circuit doesn’t plunge an area into darkness. It also makes it simple to add zones, timers or controls later, and lets maintenance staff isolate lighting without touching power circuits.

Single-phase or three-phase?
Single-phase boards suit smaller buildings and homes. Three-phase boards suit larger buildings, malls, warehouses and street lighting, where the lighting load is spread evenly across the three phases.
Where it fits in the system
The main distribution board feeds sub-main distribution boards, which in turn feed lighting DBs and power DBs on each floor or area. For an empty enclosure to fit out yourself, see the DB box.
Where lighting DBs are used
- Residential and commercial buildings
- Street lighting and outdoor lighting projects
- Shopping malls, hotels and offices
- Warehouses and factories
Why buy from MEK Uganda
MEK manufactures switchgear and metal enclosures and has made steel products since 1921. Our sales team in Kampala answers on WhatsApp and quotes from your lighting layout or circuit schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a lighting distribution board?
It is a board dedicated to lighting circuits. It splits the supply into protected circuits so each lighting zone can be switched, protected and maintained separately.
Single-phase or three-phase?
Single-phase suits smaller buildings and homes. Three-phase suits larger buildings, malls, warehouses and street lighting, where the lighting load is spread across phases.
Is every circuit protected?
Yes. Every outgoing circuit is protected against overload and short circuit.
Can it be used for street lighting?
Yes. Lighting DBs are used for street and outdoor lighting projects, with IP65-rated enclosures.
Do you deliver outside Uganda?
Yes. MEK Uganda delivers across Uganda and to all East and Central African countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the DR Congo.
